Usually we feature a Violin of the Month, but this month we decided to highlight one of our violas. This viola was made in the Ernst Heinrich Roth violin-making shop in the East German town of Marneukirchen. For over four centuries Marneukirchen was famous for producing high quality brass and string instruments. This elegant 16.5 inch viola is a 1955 Stradivarius copy of supreme European craftsmanship. Even at 16.5" inches it is surprisingly comfortable to play and has a focused tone and a lot of projection. This instrument would be great for an advanced or pre-conservatory student.
